I designed this cutaway lock to help teach lockpicking. I’ve found that it’s easier to understand how the parts interact when you can hold them in your hands instead of just watching an animation. It’s fairly easy to print, but the geometry is complex enough that it needs supports.

Recommended printing settings (I didn’t experiment much once I got these working, if you find a better system please tell me):
- Body and core oriented with the pin stacks upward
- Tree supports for the core, build plate only
- Standard supports for cylinder, on build plate and model
- <10% infill
After printing, I needed to slightly melt the bottom of the cylinder with a hot air gun and metal scraper to get the bottom lines to adhere properly. After that, both the cylinder and body needed sanding, it took about 5 minutes to get a nice feeling.
